This post frame building 104’ x 42’ serves as farm equipment storage, workshop and office facility on our 50+ acre site known as Four Pines Farm.

The cupolas are working ventilators. The covering is blue and vanilla steel. Our home will have a matching blue standing seam steel roof. Rather than eves and downspouts, the building is surrounded with a French drain, designed to carry rain and melting snow away from the site.

The porch, which wraps around one corner of he building, is supported by seven 10” white pine logs. In the spring, two 8’ long pine hitching posts will be constructed in front of the office porch to indicate parking area. We’ll add a huge one-ton handcrafted full log picnic table under the porch for lunches or meetings during warm weather (no need to chain it down).

This structure has peaked the attention of many “passersby” and some have stopped to admire, take pictures and ask questions.

In February 2003, our barn was awarded 2002 Building of the Year by the National Frame Builders Association in the Agricultural / Machinery / Storage / Workshop category. The unique feature of using hand-peeled logs to support the porch, rather than the usual 4” x 4” covered steel, was a key element in winning the prize.

At the same meeting, we were awarded 2002 Building of the Year by the company that manufactures the metal material covering the structure, in the Woodframe / Agricultural category.

This beautifully constructed barn faces our handcrafted full log home currently under construction. We watch the progress daily from the office portion of the barn.
